Kenya is poised to spotlight innovation and inclusivity in public service as it prepares to mark the 2025 Africa Public Service Day (APSD). Spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, the event promises to bring together ministries, departments, agencies, and county governments to showcase groundbreaking solutions transforming service delivery across the country.
Under the theme “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps,” the event highlights the strategic role of innovation in bridging inequalities, fostering institutional renewal, and enhancing the responsiveness of public institutions.
A highlight of this year’s celebration is the national showcase of transformative innovations developed by Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and County Governments (MDACs). These innovations include new digital tools and reimagined service models that are actively closing long-standing access gaps in healthcare, education, public administration, and more.
Top-performing innovations will be considered for presentation at the continental APSD event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, later in June. This provides a unique opportunity for Kenyan public institutions to gain continental visibility and contribute to regional knowledge exchange on effective public service practices.
In a circular issued to all public institutions, Principal Secretary for Public Service, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, emphasized the importance of full participation in APSD 2025. She noted that the event is more than a celebration it is a strategic platform for institutions to share progress, learn from peers, and align with national goals such as digital transformation, inclusive service access, and equity.
“As we prepare for APSD 2025, we invite all MDACs to embrace this opportunity to showcase their innovations, exchange knowledge, and reaffirm their commitment to a people-centered, inclusive, and tech-driven public service,” said Dr. Imbunya.
With innovation taking center stage, APSD 2025 marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s public service reform journey one that aims to build institutions that are not only resilient and agile but also equitable and inclusive for all citizens.
