Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has urged Kenyans to take an active role in promoting accountability by reporting cases of corruption, inefficiency, and poor service delivery in public offices. Speaking during this year’s Public Service Week, Mwaura encouraged citizens to use existing mechanisms such as the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) popularly known as the Office of the Ombudsman to ensure that public servants deliver quality and dignified services.
Mwaura reaffirmed that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to be treated with dignity, courtesy, and fairness in all interactions with government institutions. He emphasized that the government is committed to fostering a transparent and citizen-centered public service.
“Citizens who encounter poor service delivery, corruption, or unresponsiveness are encouraged to report such cases to the Commission on Administrative Justice,” said Mwaura.
The Ombudsman, established under Article 59(4) of the Constitution and the CAJ Act of 2011, provides an independent platform for citizens to lodge complaints against maladministration and unfair treatment by public officers. It investigates such cases, recommends corrective measures, and ensures justice for affected individuals.
Mwaura noted that the government’s ongoing reforms aim to build professionalism, integrity, and efficiency within the public sector. However, he stressed that accountability cannot be achieved without citizen participation.
Beyond individual complaints, the CAJ also conducts systemic reviews of public institutions to improve service delivery and prevent future abuses.
In addition, Mwaura highlighted the NYOTA program, a government initiative targeting over 820,000 youth across 1,450 wards. The program offers on-the-job training, recognition of prior learning, and business startup support. Each youth entrepreneur will receive KSh 50,000 in startup capital alongside mentorship and training to foster self-reliance and economic growth.
Through these efforts, the government seeks to strengthen accountability, empower citizens, and enhance the overall quality of public service in Kenya.
