The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced the shortlisting of 185 candidates for various key positions in Kenya’s judiciary, including Judges of the Court of Appeal, High Court, and the Environment and Land Court.
The recruitment process, which opened in June 2025, attracted a total of 714 applications. According to JSC Secretary Winfridah Mokaya, a gazette notice dated November 14 confirms that 35 candidates have been shortlisted for Judges of the Court of Appeal, 100 for High Court Judges, and 50 for Judges of the Environment and Land Court.
From this pool, only 15 candidates will be appointed as Judges of the Court of Appeal, 20 as High Court Judges, and 10 as Judges of the Environment and Land Court.
Mokaya stated that interviews for the shortlisted candidates will be conducted from January 12, 2026, to March 23, 2026, at the JSC Boardroom, CBK Pension Towers, 12th Floor, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi.
The commission has also invited the public to submit any information of interest concerning the shortlisted candidates ahead of the interviews. Information can be submitted by hand at the JSC offices, via postal mail, or through the commission’s official email. The JSC emphasized that contributors may be interviewed if necessary, and all submissions will remain confidential.
“The Judicial Service Commission is an equal opportunity employer. Please note that JSC recruitment services are free of charge,” the notice added.
This exercise reflects the commission’s commitment to transparency and merit-based appointments, ensuring that the most qualified individuals are considered for key roles within Kenya’s judiciary. Members of the public are encouraged to actively participate by providing relevant information, which will help maintain integrity in the selection process.
With the interviews set for early 2026, the judiciary anticipates welcoming a new cohort of judges who will play a crucial role in upholding justice and strengthening the legal system in Kenya.
