The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) has announced a public auction of its boarded assets scheduled to run from May 5 to May 14, 2025, across several of its research centers in the country.
The auction, conducted by M/S Garam Investments Auctioneers and M/S Igare Auctioneers, will feature a wide variety of items including vehicles, laboratory equipment, office equipment, old tyres, scrap materials, used furniture, and batteries, among others.
Each auction will begin at 10 a.m., starting with the KALRO Headquarters in Loresho on May 5, under the supervision of Igare Auctioneers. Other venues include the Veterinary Research Institute in Muguga, Food Crops Research Centres in Kabete, Njoro, and Embu, the Industrial Crop Research Centres in Mwea and Mtwapa, and the Horticulture Research Centres in Kibos and Matuga, among others.
KALRO has advised interested bidders to inspect the items at their respective locations between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through prior arrangement with the institute or centre directors. However, some items will only be viewed at one location and bid on at another. For example, items at the Beef Research Institute, Lanet will be viewed on-site but auctioned at Njoro, while a Toyota Prado from Kalro GERRI will be viewed at Muguga and bid on at VSRI Muguga, Nairobi.
To participate, bidders must pay a refundable bidding fee of 10% of the reserve price per lot, which grants them a bidding number. Bidders are required to register at least one hour before the auction begins.
All items will be sold on an “As-is-Where-is” basis at or above the reserve price. Upon winning a bid, the buyer must pay 25% of the bid price immediately, with the remaining balance due within 14 days. Payments will be made via a Pay Bill number provided at each auction center.
KALRO warns that failure to meet payment deadlines will lead to forfeiture of the bidding fee and transfer of the item to the next highest bidder.
Interested individuals are advised to carry valid identification as it will be used in processing all auction-related transactions.
