Visitors to Karura Forest will now be required to make all payments through the government’s e-Citizen platform, following a directive from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS). In a public notice, the agency announced that effective Friday, August 29, 2025, payments for entry, parking, and related services in all sections of Karura Forest, including the popular Sigiria block, will only be processed via Paybill number 222222 on the e-Citizen platform.
KFS explained that the move is in line with the National Treasury circular directing the onboarding of all government services to e-Citizen and the closure of non-designated payment platforms. The new system, the agency noted, is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing transparency, security, and efficiency in service delivery across public institutions.
“The Kenya Forest Service wishes to inform all visitors that, in line with the Government of Kenya’s directive on the onboarding of all government services and closure of non-designated payment platforms, all payments for gate entry, parking, and related services in Karura Forest will be made exclusively through the official e-Citizen platform (Paybill 222222) effective Friday, 29th August 2025,” KFS stated.
According to the service, the transition is also meant to make transactions easier and more convenient for the growing number of local and international visitors frequenting Karura. The forest, located in Nairobi, is one of the city’s largest green spaces and a popular destination for walking, cycling, bird watching, and picnicking.
KFS further assured the public that all other activities and services at Karura will continue as usual. The agency emphasized that its long-standing collaboration with the Karura Community Forest Association remains intact, ensuring that conservation efforts and community participation will not be disrupted.
“We invite you to continue enjoying Karura Forest and welcome your feedback to help us enhance our services,” the statement added.
The implementation of the e-Citizen payment system is expected to streamline financial accountability while offering visitors a more reliable way to pay for services.
