Agriculture remains the backbone of Kenya’s economy, employing more than 60 percent of the population and contributing significantly to the national GDP. However, the sector still faces persistent challenges from low productivity and limited market access to the growing impacts of climate change.
To address these challenges, Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming agriculture into a competitive, profitable, and technology-driven enterprise through the 5th Annual National Agribusiness Summit.
Held under the theme “From Promise to Action: Advancing Agribusiness Through Dialogue and Innovation,” the summit brought together key players from government, the private sector, academia, farmers’ organizations, and development partners. The event served as a strategic platform to strengthen partnerships, align policies, and foster innovations that will reposition agriculture as a central driver of economic transformation.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing efficiency and competitiveness across the agricultural value chain.
“We are strengthening entire value chains, enhancing market efficiency, and modernizing rural infrastructure to unlock the full potential of the sector,” Mudavadi said.
He added that the government’s efforts are anchored in the Agricultural Sector Transformation and Growth Strategy (ASTGS) and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). These frameworks aim to reduce duplication, stabilize markets, curb exploitation, and ensure farmers and agripreneurs benefit directly.
Since its inception, the National Agribusiness Summit has evolved into a premier platform promoting agricultural modernization. It brings together policymakers, investors, and innovators to share knowledge, identify challenges, and develop actionable solutions for sustainable growth.
By embracing collaboration and innovation, Kenya is taking significant steps toward transforming its agricultural sector into a modern, resilient, and profitable industry that not only feeds the nation but drives long-term economic prosperity.
