Kenya and Egypt have reiterated their commitment to strengthening a strategic partnership aimed at fostering peace, trade, and sustainable development across both nations and the wider African region.
Speaking during the celebration of Egypt’s National Day held at the Ambassador’s residence in Nairobi, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, emphasized the long-standing historical ties and growing cooperation between the two countries.
Mudavadi highlighted the progress made in recent years, noting that the relationship between Nairobi and Cairo has evolved into a dynamic partnership anchored on mutual interests. He cited increased collaboration in key sectors such as trade, investment, education, research, and technology as indicators of the deepening ties.
“Kenya values Egypt’s dedicated efforts to advance our shared interests,” said Mudavadi. “The signing of the Kenya-Egypt Joint Declaration for a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership by Presidents William Ruto and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi earlier this year was a landmark moment that underscores our shared vision for prosperity and stability.”
The declaration, signed in 2024, sets the tone for a framework of cooperation that goes beyond bilateral trade, incorporating regional peace initiatives and joint development strategies in infrastructure and innovation. With both countries playing influential roles in the African Union and other multilateral platforms, the partnership is seen as pivotal in shaping Africa’s future.
Mudavadi also expressed his gratitude to outgoing Egyptian Ambassador Wael Nasreldin Attiya, commending him for his role in enhancing Kenya-Egypt relations during his tenure.
“We appreciate Ambassador Attiya’s contribution in fostering dialogue and action across multiple sectors. His leadership has laid a solid foundation for continued progress,” the CS noted.
The celebrations served as a reminder of the potential within African partnerships when diplomacy is guided by mutual respect and shared goals. As Egypt and Kenya reaffirm their strategic ties, focus now shifts to the implementation of joint agreements, particularly in areas that promise tangible benefits to citizens such as youth empowerment, technological innovation, and regional peace-building initiatives.
