The Kenyan government has announced the appointment of 13 new members to various state boards and university councils, strengthening oversight and governance in health, transport, and education sectors.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, in a notice published in the Kenya Gazette, appointed five new members to the Kenya Board of Mental Health. The appointees Linett Ongeri, Simon Githui, Harun Hassan, and Dennis Wamalwa will serve three-year terms, while Beatrice Maingi was reappointed for an additional three years.
In addition, Duale reappointed Isha Anand and Bernard Kimutai Maiyo to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and made new appointments including Maurice K’Odhiambo, Tadudi Aly Omar, and Serah Mutu Kisilu, all for three-year terms. These board members will support the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (KPPB) in ensuring the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medicines, medical devices, and pharmaceutical services nationwide. They will also oversee licensing and inspections of pharmacies, hospitals, and laboratories, register pharmaceutical professionals, and regulate medicine manufacture and distribution.
On the transport front, Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, CS James Macharia Chirchir, appointed Anne Njeri Gitau to the Aeronautical Search and Rescue Committee for a one-year term. The committee plays a key role in overseeing aeronautical safety and emergency response operations in Kenya.
In the education sector, Cabinet Secretary for Education, CS Ogamba, appointed Dr. Charles Momanyi and Irene Chebet Chesire to the Council of Alupe University for three-year terms. As council members, they will provide strategic oversight, approve policies and statutes, and ensure the university complies with national laws and regulations, strengthening governance and institutional development.
These appointments reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of key public institutions, ensuring they are guided by skilled and experienced professionals to deliver on their mandates.
