Kenya recognised for innovation in public service delivery as NTSA boss bags two awards
Kenya has once again made its mark on the continental stage after being recognised for innovation and excellence in public service delivery at the 6th Annual Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) emerged as one of the event’s biggest winners, securing the Digital Transformation in Public Transportation Award. This recognition celebrates NTSA’s remarkable progress in digitizing its operations, transitioning from manual to fully digital systems, and improving efficiency in service delivery.
Through its technology-driven approach, NTSA has streamlined essential services such as licensing, vehicle registration, and road safety monitoring. The shift to a paperless environment has significantly reduced turnaround times and minimized face-to-face interactions, enhancing transparency and convenience for Kenyans.
At the same event, NTSA Director General George Njao received two prestigious individual honours—Public Sector Personality of the Year and Digital Transformation CEO of the Year. Njao was celebrated for his visionary leadership and commitment to leveraging technology to improve road safety and public transport systems across the country.
His leadership has been instrumental in the successful rollout of several digital platforms, including online vehicle inspection systems and driver testing modules. These initiatives have strengthened data management and improved accountability within Kenya’s transport sector.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Njao credited the recognition to the collective effort of NTSA’s staff and the government’s broader commitment to technological innovation in governance.
The accolades reaffirm Kenya’s growing reputation as a leader in digital transformation and efficient public service delivery in Africa. NTSA’s achievements serve as a model for other public institutions aiming to harness technology to enhance service accessibility and promote safer, smarter transportation systems.
