Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage in six counties on Friday, May 23, 2025, as part of its routine network maintenance efforts. In a notice issued on Thursday evening, the electricity distributor stated that the scheduled interruptions will affect selected areas in Nairobi, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Homa Bay, Nyeri, and Taita Taveta counties.
In Nairobi County, the outage will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm in the Lavington area. Specific locations affected include Isaac Gathanju Road, Naurid Merali Road, parts of Maji Mazuri, Tiles & Carpet Centre, part of James Gichuru Road, Lavington Curve, Jeffery Club, and adjacent premises.
Nakuru County will see a disruption from 9:00am to 4:00pm, affecting parts of Rongai town. The impacted areas include Kandutura, Waka Center, Kware, Thirandu, Kapwen, Rongai Primary, Arasa Center, BP Flora, Kimangu, and nearby customers.
In Uasin Gishu County, two major areas will be affected. The first outage, from 8:00am to 5:00pm, will impact Cheptiret, Kapkoiga, Kerita, Lorian, Kapkoi, Kiptanui Farm, Koiluget, Rurigi, and Kaptumo. The second scheduled interruption, during the same hours, will affect Moiben Centre, Kabomoi, Chebororwa Girls, Kokwet, Kapsigilai, Meibeki, Cheukta, Kapmaram, and Kiboroum.
Residents of Homa Bay County should expect a blackout from 8:00am to 4:00pm in Gendia, Kosele, and Karabok areas. Institutions and markets such as Sikri Vocational Training, Ober High School, Dudi Girls, Mawego National Polytechnic, and several local markets including Ringa and Bware will be affected.
In Nyeri County, the power outage will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm, hitting areas like Kigogoini, Wandumbi, Cuba, Kiriti Secondary School, Kamahuru TBC, Kamakia, and Gacuiro.
Taita Taveta County will experience an outage from 9:00am to 5:00pm affecting Loitoktok and Mwatate areas, including Sarova Salt Lick Lodges, Mwashuma, Bura, Nyolo, Zare, and the entire Kamtonga area.
Kenya Power urged affected customers to make necessary arrangements and apologized for the inconvenience caused. The utility reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery through ongoing maintenance of its infrastructure.
