Kenya Railways has issued a warning to the public regarding a fake job advertisement circulating online, claiming the authority is hiring over 700 staff. In a statement released on Sunday, November 23, the corporation urged job seekers to ignore such adverts, as no recruitment of this scale is currently underway.
The fake letter, which included the corporation’s logo to appear legitimate, listed positions such as Sales and Marketing Manager, Passenger Service Manager, Insurance Services Manager, Electrician, Lad Controller, and CCTV Operator. It instructed applicants to send their applications to a bogus email address, which had no official link to Kenya Railways, with a submission deadline of November 30.
In its statement, Kenya Railways emphasized the importance of verifying all job vacancies through the corporation’s official website before submitting applications. “We wish to alert members of the public about a fake job advertisement doing the rounds on various social media platforms. We strongly advise job seekers to be cautious and verify any job adverts through our website,” the statement read.
This announcement comes shortly after the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) also cautioned the public over a similar fake job offer circulating online under its name. The board confirmed that the offers were not legitimate and advised those who received such letters to report the matter either to the police or through the board’s official communication channels.
Authorities remind the public that legitimate government agencies, including Kenya Railways and PPB, never request money or personal details through unofficial channels. Job seekers are urged to remain vigilant, avoid sharing personal information, and report suspicious job offers to law enforcement.
By exercising caution and verifying job vacancies through official websites, Kenyans can avoid falling victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes that continue to circulate online.
