President William Ruto has reiterated Kenya’s commitment to bolstering bilateral relations with Ukraine, with a particular emphasis on education, trade, and food security. The affirmation came during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, Spain.
During the bilateral talks, President Ruto emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration between the two nations, particularly in creating educational opportunities for Kenyan students. “Kenya welcomes deeper collaboration with Ukraine to expand learning opportunities, especially for students,” President Ruto said, underscoring education as a key pillar in the emerging partnership.
The two leaders also discussed joint efforts to address food security challenges, a matter of growing concern in the region. President Ruto pointed out that Ukraine’s agricultural capacity, coupled with Kenya’s strategic geographical location, presents an opportunity for the efficient distribution of food and other essential commodities across Africa.
“This partnership provides a valuable platform to expand cooperation in information and communication technology (ICT), as well as trade, for shared growth and development,” Ruto said.
Ukraine, known for its strong agricultural sector and advanced technological capabilities, could play a pivotal role in enhancing Kenya’s efforts to boost food production and improve digital infrastructure. By tapping into Ukraine’s expertise, Kenya aims to build resilience against food crises and improve access to modern learning tools.
Additionally, the two countries agreed to work together on promoting regional and global stability through peacekeeping, mediation, and multilateral diplomacy. This shared vision highlights Kenya and Ukraine’s support for international cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution.
The meeting in Seville marks a significant step toward deepening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of strategic cooperation between Kenya and Ukraine.
