Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Saturday led an economic empowerment engagement in Olooltepes, Kajiado County, aimed at uplifting women, youth groups, and small-scale traders. The event was part of the government’s broader efforts to spur grassroots economic development and foster inclusive growth across the country.
Addressing hundreds of residents, Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to key programmes designed to stimulate the economy and create opportunities for all Kenyans. These include the Affordable Housing Programme, overseas job placements, the Climate WorX Initiative, establishment of ICT hubs, and the expansion of professional employment avenues such as teaching, police service, and community health promotion.
“Our aim is to empower every Kenyan to contribute to and benefit from economic growth,” said the Deputy President. “These initiatives are focused on improving livelihoods and creating a resilient economy, especially at the community level.”
He praised the residents of Kajiado for embracing government programmes and reiterated that the state was keen on delivering promises made to the region. He cited the recarpeting of the Ngong–Suswa road as a testament to this commitment. The project, he said, would significantly improve transport and trade along the Naivasha corridor, opening up new markets and opportunities for local traders and farmers.
Kindiki also emphasized the importance of health coverage through the new Social Health Authority (SHA), which is part of the government’s strategy to provide universal health access. He disclosed that 500,000 out of Kajiado’s 1.1 million residents have already registered with SHA and encouraged the remaining population to follow suit.
“We must ensure that every household has access to quality healthcare without financial hardship. The SHA is designed to serve that purpose,” he stated.
The event saw active participation from women’s groups, youth organisations, and local business owners, who welcomed the government’s renewed focus on economic empowerment.
Kindiki’s visit highlights the administration’s drive to promote inclusive development and deliver tangible benefits to communities across the country, with Kajiado seen as a strategic hub for future growth.
