The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has appointed Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias as Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
His appointment took effect on Friday, September 19, 2025. It followed consultations between the KETRACO Board, the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, and the Cabinet Secretary for Energy & Petroleum.
A Seasoned Power Sector Leader
Eng. Kibias has more than 20 years of experience in Kenya’s electricity sector. Before his appointment, he was the General Manager for System Operation and Power Management at KETRACO.
He also worked with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) in various roles. These included Regional Manager, County Manager, and positions in design, construction, planning, and maintenance.
Strong Academic and Professional Background
Kibias holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
He also earned a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. In addition, he holds a Master’s in Nuclear Power Plant Engineering from KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School in South Korea.
Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Energy Studies at Moi University.
Professionally, he is a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya. He is also a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and serves on the Nuclear Committee of the Federation of African Engineering Organization (FAEO).
Board’s Confidence
In its statement, the KETRACO Board praised Kibias as a seasoned engineer passionate about power systems and renewable energy. The board expressed confidence that he will provide strong leadership for the company.
The board also thanked outgoing CEO John Muoki Mativo for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.
