The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has officially launched a nationwide data collection exercise for the 2025/26 Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (KIHBS), beginning this July and running through to July 22, 2026.
In a public notice, KNBS announced that trained enumerators will conduct face-to-face interviews in 24,480 scientifically selected households across all 47 counties, including 960 households located in refugee camps. The yearlong survey is designed to provide critical data that will shape national planning, influence policy formulation, and support the monitoring of living standards throughout the country.
KIHBS is one of Kenya’s most comprehensive household surveys, covering a broad spectrum of issues such as income distribution, household expenditure, education and health access, employment and labor conditions, child health and nutrition, fertility and mortality rates, housing, water, sanitation, and energy usage.
To ensure transparency and safety, enumerators will be clearly identified with KNBS badges featuring QR codes for authentication. They will also carry official introduction letters and use tablet computers to record responses efficiently and securely.
KNBS is appealing to all selected households to cooperate fully with the enumerators, assuring the public that all information gathered will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality and used solely for statistical purposes.
“Our commitment is to hold the data collected in strict confidentiality and use it for statistical purposes only,” the notice emphasized.
The data obtained through KIHBS will play a crucial role in Kenya’s economic and social development agenda, informing everything from poverty reduction strategies to the allocation of public resources.
KNBS has made its contact information available for any public inquiries. Members of the public can reach the bureau at Real Towers in Nairobi, via telephone, email, or by visiting their official website at www.knbs.or.ke.
As the survey kicks off, the bureau is calling on Kenyans to support this important national initiative that will influence the country’s development path over the coming years.
