Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned electricity interruptions in various parts of the country on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The utility firm stated that the outages, which will occur at different times between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., are necessary to facilitate essential maintenance work on the power distribution system.
According to a notice issued by KPLC, the affected regions include parts of Kisii, Bungoma, and Uasin Gishu counties. The scheduled maintenance is aimed at enhancing the reliability of power supply and ensuring the stability of the national grid.
In Kisii County, power interruptions will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The specific areas to be affected include Boronyi, Igego, Bokebo, St. Teresa Bokebo, parts of Kiogoro, and surrounding areas. Residents and businesses in these areas have been urged to prepare for the temporary loss of electricity during the stated period.
In Bungoma County, the power outage will last the entire day, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The affected areas are Chwele Market, Musese, Sanandiki, and neighboring customers. The prolonged interruption is expected to impact commercial activities in the region, especially in the bustling Chwele Market area.
Uasin Gishu County will also experience a full-day power interruption between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Areas to be affected include Kipkaren River, Kapkenyeloi, St. Mary’s Osorongai, and adjacent customers. KPLC advises residents in these areas to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions to minimize inconvenience.
KPLC has assured customers that the maintenance work is critical for improving service delivery and has apologized for the inconvenience caused. The utility has also urged the public to treat all electrical lines as live during the interruption period, as power may be restored without prior notice.
