Residents Raise Safety Concerns
Residents of Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, are worried about a Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) pole left in the middle of Maasai Lodge–Rimpa Road. The pole stands near the SGR station in Kandisi.
Locals say the pole is a danger to both motorists and pedestrians. Many shared their frustration on social media, questioning why the contractor and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) allowed construction to continue without moving it.
“This is dangerous to motorists. KPLC should remove this pole near SGR Kandisi to allow proper construction of the Maasai Lodge–Rimpa Road,” one resident wrote.
Ongoing Road Project
The road project began in June and is part of efforts to ease heavy traffic in Ongata Rongai and nearby areas such as Twala.
According to the State Department for Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimani, the Maasai Lodge–Rimpa road is a key infrastructure project.
“The road will improve accessibility, cut travel time, and boost economic growth in the region,” Kimani said.
Previous Complaints on Gataka Road
This is not the first time Rongai residents have raised alarm over road projects. Just weeks ago, part of Gataka Road near Tumaini was abandoned shortly after excavation. Residents said the dug-out road left trenches that blocked businesses and even hospital access.
“We are worried about what will happen when rains come. The road was bad before, but now it is worse,” one resident said.
In response, PS Kimani promised that work on both Gataka–Tumaini and Maasai Lodge–Rimpa roads would resume soon.
Call for Urgent Action
Meanwhile, residents continue to demand that KPLC move the pole to allow smooth and safe road construction. They say failure to act quickly could endanger lives and delay the project.
