Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned electricity interruptions in six counties on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, citing the need for system maintenance. The power outages will affect parts of Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Homa Bay counties, with some regions also experiencing cuts in the wider Mt Kenya and North Rift areas.
In Nairobi County, several locations will be without power from 9 am to 5 pm. Affected areas include the University of Nairobi, Kaumoni, and Loresho Primary and Secondary schools, as well as Shamba Café and neighboring premises. Additionally, parts of Nairobi West including Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi West Hospital, Madaraka Roundabout, and Ghandhi Avenue will face blackouts. Other impacted zones include sections of Langata Road, Galleria Mall, CUEA, and part of Magadi Road.
Nakuru County will see outages between 9 am and 5 pm in regions such as Nkoilale Market, Sekenani Market, Talek Market, and nearby lodges and hotels. In the Mt Kenya region, Maria Njoki, Karogo Primary, and Matururi Primary School are among the affected.
In the coastal region, Mombasa County will experience power cuts from 9 am to 5 pm in neighborhoods including Pentagon, Shika Adabu, Kibaki East, Ujamaa, and Kona Mpya. Similarly, Kilifi County will see widespread interruptions, with industrial and residential areas such as Vipingo Industries, Pwani Oil Ltd, and Shariani Center among those impacted.
Kwale County will have a shorter power cut, scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm in areas like Mabokoni, Mbuwani, Mwanjamba, and the Technical University of Mombasa’s local campus.
In Homa Bay County, areas to be affected from 9 am to 5 pm include Koduogo Market, Mbita, Rusinga, Luanda, and Ogongo Market.
Kenya Power has assured customers that these outages are essential for scheduled maintenance works and infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving service delivery. Customers are advised to make necessary arrangements to minimize inconvenience during the outages.
