Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced scheduled power outages on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, to facilitate routine maintenance of its systems. The planned outages will affect various regions across seven counties: Nairobi, Nandi, Kisumu, Bungoma, Nyeri, Laikipia, and Kilifi.
In Nairobi, residents in parts of Githurai 45, Co-op Bank, Naivas, Kingdom Sacco, Mt. Kenya, Kimbo, Mwiki School, and Farmers Choice will be without electricity from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other affected areas include parts of Nairobi West, such as Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi West Shopping Centre, Muhoho Avenue, and Madaraka Roundabout.
Nandi County will also face disruptions in areas including Danger and Kapsasur and their surroundings during the same time period.
In Kisumu, power will be interrupted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in locations such as Siriba Campus, Maseno Nyawita, and nearby areas.
Residents of Bungoma County in areas like Mechimeru, Nzoia, Machinjoni, Bukembe, and Mabanga will experience outages from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In Nyeri, the power cut will impact Gititu Dispensary, Karo Schools, Kiaraho, and nearby communities. The interruption is also scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Laikipia County will see power outages in several market centers and institutions including Kongoni Farm, Kalalu Girls Secondary School, and Umande Market.
The most extensive outages are expected in Kilifi, where areas such as Mtwapa Town, Jumba Ruins, Mombasa Apparel, Milly Fruits, and numerous residential neighborhoods like Bomani and Junju will be affected. The scheduled power cut will last from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
KPLC has urged customers in the affected regions to prepare accordingly and apologized for any inconvenience caused. The utility emphasized that the planned interruptions are necessary to enhance the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply.
