Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a scheduled power outage on Sunday, May 4, 2025, as part of a routine maintenance exercise aimed at improving electricity supply reliability in Uasin Gishu, Embu, and Machakos counties.
In a public notice, KPLC urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the full-day power interruption. The planned outage is expected to last from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in most regions, with some slight variations depending on locality.
In Uasin Gishu County, the maintenance will affect the Kapchesukunwo area, including Soin Primary School, Kapkatembu, and nearby communities. The company has assured residents that the work is essential to enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the power grid in the region.
Embu County will experience widespread disruptions, particularly in Embu Town. Key facilities to be affected include KPLC offices, ABSA Bank, Judiciary premises, the Regional Commissioner’s Offices and Residence, Naivas Supermarkets, EMCO, NOKRAS Hotel, Slopes Hotel, Izaak Walton Inn, the Catholic Church, and the public library. Power will be cut off from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, in Machakos County, parts of Syokimau will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Areas set to experience power cuts include Katani CBD, Katani Seme, Katani Primary School, Epco Quarry, Kenya Builders, and residential zones like Bila Low Ashville Court. Commercial and industrial sites such as Shajanad Quarry and Blue Stone will also be affected.
KPLC emphasized that planned maintenance is essential for long-term improvements in electricity supply. The company regularly conducts scheduled outages for grid upgrades, customer connections, and fault resolution.
Besides planned interruptions, unplanned outages may occur due to equipment failure, vandalism, weather-related damage, or interference by wildlife. KPLC remains committed to minimizing disruptions and enhancing service reliability across the country.
