The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced plans for a mass auction of uncollected goods stored at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Nairobi. In a notice dated August 22, 2025, the taxman revealed that over 100 items are set to be auctioned if their owners fail to clear them within 30 days.
According to the notice, the affected companies and individuals must enter and remove their goods from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper before the expiry of the deadline. Failure to comply will see the goods classified as abandoned under the East African Community Customs Management Act (EACCMA), 2004, and subsequently disposed of through public auction.
KRA disclosed that the public auction will run from October 6 to October 9, 2025, and will be conducted via its official online portal. Among the goods listed for disposal are 20 packages of white refined sugar, each weighing 1,200 kilograms, and 408 packages of Koudijs broiler concentrate destined for Uganda.
Locally bound items also make up a significant portion of the auction list. These include an assortment of household and personal effects such as used chairs, gym equipment, bicycles, sewing machines, and used wheelchairs. Commercial and industrial goods, including refrigerator display cabinets, a water treatment plant with reverse osmosis, tiles, wooden flooring, coolers, wooden furniture, and metal fittings, are also featured.
To facilitate transparency, KRA has invited potential buyers to an open viewing of the goods scheduled for October 2 and 3, 2025, during official working hours at designated locations.
The announcement comes just days after the authority cautioned Kenyans against falling victim to fraudulent auction notices. A fake post circulating online had falsely claimed that KRA was inviting the public to an auction of 22 luxury vehicles. The authority reiterated that all official auction details are published on its official platforms.
By moving to auction these uncollected goods, KRA aims not only to clear space in its warehouses but also to enforce compliance with customs regulations. The upcoming sale is expected to attract significant interest from both businesses and individuals looking for affordable items.
