The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a public notice announcing a scheduled maintenance of its Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS) set to take place on Sunday, July 13. The maintenance exercise will begin at 4:00 a.m. and conclude at 10:00 a.m., lasting a total of six hours.
During this period, the iCMS platform will be completely inaccessible, affecting all users. KRA has urged stakeholders including importers, exporters, and clearing agents to plan their operations accordingly to avoid disruptions.
“Kenya Revenue Authority informs all stakeholders that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iCMS. Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” the notice reads.
The iCMS is a pivotal digital platform for managing customs transactions in Kenya. Its temporary shutdown could impact the smooth processing of sea manifests, house manifests, and other customs-related documents. While KRA has not detailed the specific nature of the maintenance, such exercises are commonly aimed at improving system stability, performance, or security.
Launched to modernize customs operations, iCMS integrates various functions into a single platform. It replaces multiple legacy systems and significantly enhances trade facilitation through automation. This has led to reduced paperwork, minimized human errors, and streamlined import and export procedures.
One of the standout features of iCMS is system-to-system data exchange, which shortens cargo clearance times and lowers transaction costs for traders. The platform also plays a crucial role in strengthening compliance with customs regulations and improving coordination between customs officials and stakeholders.
Moreover, iCMS promotes transparency by curbing malpractices and increasing accountability across the trade logistics chain. Its real-time cargo tracking capabilities help reduce the risk of cargo diversion or loss.
As Kenya continues to embrace digital transformation in public service delivery, the periodic maintenance of such systems ensures that platforms like iCMS remain secure, reliable, and efficient.
KRA has emphasized its commitment to ensuring that the platform operates optimally and appreciates the understanding of stakeholders during the maintenance period. Regular upgrades and maintenance are essential to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of this vital national system.
