Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Director-General Eng. Silas Kinoti has firmly dismissed widespread social media claims suggesting that he is set to proceed on terminal leave.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Kinoti labelled the reports as “baseless and misleading,” urging the public to disregard the misinformation. “Contrary to the claims being spread, I, Eng. Silas Kinoti, Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), am not proceeding on terminal leave,” he wrote. “These allegations are completely false, misleading and should be treated with the disregard they deserve.”
In a formal statement, KURA also moved swiftly to debunk the rumours, terming them as unsubstantiated and aimed at creating unnecessary confusion. “We wish to inform the public that the information circulating on social media alleging that Eng. Silas Kinoti is set to proceed on terminal leave is false,” the statement read.
KURA further advised Kenyans to be cautious about the sources of information they consume and share, especially regarding leadership matters. “The public is hereby urged not to fall prey to misinformation and to rely only on official communication channels for verified updates regarding KURA and its leadership,” the Authority stated.
Eng. Kinoti reaffirmed his commitment to the Authority’s mandate, stating that he continues to serve in his role without any interruptions. “We remain fully committed to our mandate of developing and maintaining quality urban roads infrastructure across the country,” he said.
Kinoti has been at the helm of KURA since June 18, 2020, when he was confirmed as Director-General. Before that, he had served in the position in an acting capacity from September 2015. He first joined the Authority in 2009 as a manager in the Roads Department and later rose to become the General Manager for Planning and Environment.
The swift response from both Kinoti and KURA highlights a growing concern over the spread of fake news and underscores the need for the public to rely on verified, official sources when it comes to information about government agencies and leadership.
