Machakos County has made a major stride in emergency preparedness with the launch of its sixth fully operational Fire and Rescue Centre in Kyumbi. Located strategically along the bustling Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, the new facility aims to enhance response times and provide critical services during emergencies.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti officially unveiled the modern emergency hub, calling it a “proud moment” and a transformative development in the county’s disaster management efforts.
“The Kyumbi Fire Station stands out as a symbol of what collaboration, purpose, and determination can achieve. This is a game changer in our emergency response and a reaffirmation of my government’s commitment to efficiency during unforeseen circumstances,” Governor Ndeti remarked during the launch.
The facility is equipped to provide 24/7 fire response and rescue operations. Beyond firefighting, it will also offer trauma counselling and connect affected individuals to long-term support services. This comprehensive approach signals a shift towards more holistic emergency care in Machakos.
The governor extended her appreciation to development partners including Purple Dot, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Kenya Red Cross. Their support, she said, was crucial in the successful implementation of the project.
“The collaboration has not only made this centre possible but has significantly strengthened our emergency preparedness across the county. It demonstrates how strategic partnerships can deliver life-saving services and build community resilience,” she noted.
The launch of the Kyumbi centre brings the total number of fire and rescue facilities in Machakos to six, a significant investment in public safety infrastructure. With its location along one of Kenya’s busiest transport corridors, the centre is expected to play a vital role in reducing the response time to highway accidents, fires, and other emergencies.
