Finance Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has come out strongly in defense of President William Ruto’s administration, stating that the government is stable and delivering on its mandate. Speaking during the Kapsaret Economic Empowerment Programme in Eldoret, Mbadi dismissed claims that the government is failing, urging Kenyans to focus on the tangible progress being made.
“As Finance CS, I’m well-informed about the government’s operations and financial standing. The government is stable. I don’t understand how anyone can claim it is failing,” Mbadi said.
He praised President Ruto for his inclusive leadership, citing his own appointment to the Treasury docket despite hailing from the opposition ODM party and a different ethnic background. “That kind of leadership is rare—even in developed nations,” Mbadi stated.
During the event, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi distributed empowerment items worth over Sh45 million, including two vehicles, to various groups. An additional KSh30 million was raised by over 40 political and business leaders to support the initiative.
Mbadi pledged full support for President Ruto, vowing to work tirelessly to revive the economy and deliver benefits to all Kenyans. He noted that the President inherited an economy burdened by a trillion-shilling deficit and high public debt, but progress has since been made.
“Food is more affordable thanks to subsidised fertiliser. Kenya is now self-sufficient in sugar and preparing to export,” Mbadi said. He also pointed to the operationalisation of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the construction of over 400 markets nationwide.
He assured that most pending contractor payments have been addressed and infrastructure projects will soon resume. Mbadi further emphasized equitable resource distribution, calling for uniform development across all regions.
Highlighting growing support for Ruto in the Luo community, Mbadi declared, “We are part of the government, and we are here to stay.”
In a pointed remark, he questioned the logic of leaving the government after being entrusted with managing the national treasury. “How can I step aside when I’m responsible for authorising payments, including salaries for the President and MPs?” he asked.
Mbadi concluded by pledging to serve all Kenyans fairly and promote inclusive development across the country.
