Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has praised President William Ruto’s administration for stabilizing the country’s economy and advancing development across all regions. Speaking in Migori on Sunday, Mbadi reflected on the challenges he faced when he first assumed office at the Treasury, describing a period when the government struggled to meet basic financial obligations.
“Last year, when I was appointed to Treasury, sometimes we could sit with my PS and the Director General of Accounting Services, and we were not sure we could pay salaries. We could not even tell Kenyans whether we would meet our loan obligations,” Mbadi said. He attributed the previous volatility of the shilling to this uncertainty over payments.
The CS emphasized that the government has since made significant strides in stabilizing the economy. “Yet this economy has been run by other people previously. Now, we have even de-risked the loan that was to be paid in 2027,” he added, urging critics to acknowledge the progress made under the current administration.
Mbadi also highlighted the role of President Ruto’s support in turning around the Treasury, enabling the government to maintain fiscal stability and boost public confidence.
Beyond financial management, Mbadi pointed to concrete regional development achievements. He cited the upgrade of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital from a level five to a level six facility, with its budget rising from Ksh.500 million to Ksh.3 billion. Additionally, he noted that Migori County is set to benefit from development projects worth Ksh.2.3 billion.
Appealing to the Luo community, Mbadi encouraged support for President Ruto, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to equitable regional development and improved public services.
Through these measures, Mbadi said, the Ruto government has demonstrated its ability to stabilize the economy while delivering tangible benefits to Kenyans across the country, ensuring that fiscal challenges no longer hinder the nation’s growth trajectory.
