A Nairobi man who had been living on top of a tree along Jogoo Road has been rescued. His unusual lifestyle caught public attention after videos showed him perched in a makeshift treehouse.
The man’s story went viral online, and many Kenyans expressed concern. He was quickly nicknamed the “Landlord of the Avoidable House.”
Mosiria Steps In
Nairobi County’s Chief Environment Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, stepped in after seeing the viral clips. On Saturday, September 13, 2025, he confirmed on his X account that he had fulfilled his promise to help the man.
Mosiria bought him a mkokoteni (handcart) to start collecting recyclables. This will not only help him earn an income but also support a cleaner city.
He also pledged to assist in registering a Community-Based Organisation (CBO) with the man’s friends. The goal is to create a more sustainable way for them to make a living.
“As promised, today I returned to visit our friend, the landlord of the ‘Avoidable House’ along Jogoo Road, to support him in finding a better path in life,” Mosiria wrote.
A New Home and Mentorship
The support did not stop at business. Mosiria secured a proper house for the man within Jogoo Road. To give him a smooth start, he also paid three months’ rent in advance.
This move, he explained, would give the man enough time to stabilize financially without worrying about eviction.
“I will continue walking with him on this new journey until he becomes fully stable and independent,” Mosiria added.
Community Response
Mosiria thanked Kenyans who had raised concerns about the man’s unusual living conditions. Their voices, he noted, encouraged him to intervene.
“To everyone who expressed concern about Ras’s situation and reached out to me, thank you. Everything is now on the right track,” he assured.
This act of compassion has given the man a fresh start and shown how collective concern can restore dignity to those in need.
