Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has urged Kenyans living abroad to remain law-abiding citizens in their host countries while assuring them of the stability and focus of the Kenyan government.
Speaking during a diaspora engagement in the Kingdom of Morocco, where he met Kenyans residing in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, and Kenitra, Mudavadi dismissed growing political unrest back home as “noise from a few disgruntled individuals.” He reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering on its development agenda, noting that despite political rhetoric, progress is being made on key initiatives such as the Affordable Housing Programme and the rollout of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Highlighting the registration of over 21 million Kenyans to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) a significant rise from the previous nine million under NHIF Mudavadi said these milestones demonstrate the government’s determination to improve the welfare of its citizens. He acknowledged the presence of challenges in implementing new programmes but maintained that all well-intentioned efforts would ultimately succeed.
“We cannot rule out that there are individuals who benefited from past systems and are working to undermine the current reforms,” he stated.
Mudavadi also addressed concerns about the image of Kenya abroad, cautioning against the actions of a few individuals that could lead to negative perceptions and even xenophobia. “Should the country suffer because of a few ill-mannered people?” he posed.
He called on Kenyans in the diaspora to be exemplary ambassadors of the nation by conducting themselves with integrity, diligence, and utmost respect for the laws of their host countries.
“You cannot bring the noise from Nairobi to Morocco. Respect their laws and live in harmony,” he warned, adding that unlike Kenya’s liberal 2010 Constitution, not all countries guarantee similar freedoms.
Mudavadi’s visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen diaspora relations and reassure Kenyans abroad of the government’s unwavering focus on national progress amid domestic political turbulence.
