A massive fire broke out in Nairobi’s South B estate in the early hours of Wednesday, November 20, 2025, causing significant structural damage. According to eyewitnesses, the fire began at around 2am in one building before rapidly spreading to neighboring structures.
Local residents made initial attempts to control the flames, but the fire quickly escalated beyond their capacity. Emergency services from Nairobi City County, along with the Rescue Services Team, were called in to contain the blaze. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, though several buildings had already been consumed.
Images and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke captured the devastating scene, showing dense clouds of smoke and residents desperately trying to salvage their belongings. Other footage revealed groups of residents helplessly watching as their properties were destroyed, even as responders intensified efforts to bring the fire under control.
Fortunately, authorities have reported that no fatalities or injuries have been confirmed so far. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This incident comes just weeks after another major fire broke out in Garissa on October 27, 2025. That blaze, which erupted at around 11:40am in a busy refugee camp market, destroyed numerous shops, pharmacies, restaurants, and other commercial structures. The Kenya Red Cross managed to bring the Garissa fire under control, but traders and residents were left counting their losses.
The recurrence of these fires highlights the need for increased awareness and safety measures across urban areas in Kenya. Nairobi County officials are expected to assess the South B damage and support affected residents, while investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any potential fire hazards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
