Nairobi residents are set to experience a major water supply interruption this weekend following an announcement by Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, October 2, the utility company confirmed that the outage will take place from Friday, October 3 at 6:00 a.m. to Saturday, October 4 at 8:00 a.m. The planned disruption will facilitate the interconnection of the Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete water pipeline at the Gigiri Pumping Station and Reservoirs, in collaboration with the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA).
According to Nairobi Water, the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to improve water distribution and efficiency across the city.
Estates and Areas Affected
The outage will affect a wide range of residential and commercial areas, including:
- Kileleshwa: Kandara Road, Gichugu Road, Mazeras Road, Othaya Road, Laikipia Road, Kaputei, Githunguri, DoD, and environs.
- Mamlaka & Valley Road: University of Nairobi, Mamlaka Line, and Valley Road.
- Kilimani: Argwings Kodhek Road, Hurlingham, Kindaruma Road, Denis Pritt Road, Coptic Hospital, and surrounding estates.
- Kawangware & Dagoretti: Lower Gitanga Road, Sunset Estate, Kabiria, Waithaka, and Dagoretti Market.
- Uthiru & Muthua: Uthiru Muthua, Gatina, and environs.
- Ngong Road & Upper Hill: Jamhuri Estate, KNH, KEMRI, Highview, and Kenyatta Market.
- Kibera & Highrise: Makina, Olympic, Lindi, Kwa DC, KEMRI Flats, and Highrise Estate.
- Karen: Bogani East Road, Magadi Road, Forest Edge, and Mukoma Road.
- Langata: Southlands Estate.
- CBD & Mombasa Road: Central Business District, South B & C, JKIA, SGR, EPZA, Embakasi Village, and Tassia.
- Ngara & Gigiri: Village Market, UNEP, US Embassy, and surrounding areas.
- Industrial Area: Entire Industrial Area.
- Eastleigh & Environs: Eastleigh, Buruburu, Gikomba, Majengo, and Shauri Moyo.
- Mathare & Environs: Mathare North, Utalii College, Huruma, Old Muthaiga, and Baba Dogo.
Advisory to Residents
Nairobi Water has urged all affected customers, institutions, and businesses to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly during the disruption period.
The company assured residents that normal supply will resume promptly once the upgrade works are completed.
