The Uasin Gishu County Public Service Board has unveiled a new leadership team to steer Eldoret City following its elevation from a municipality, marking a new chapter in the region’s urban governance.
Long-serving administrator Julius Kitur has been re-appointed as chairman of the Eldoret City Board for a seven-year term. Kitur has chaired the Eldoret Municipal Board for the past decade and expressed his readiness to continue serving after the town’s elevation to city status. “If I am re-appointed, I will serve with dedication,” he remarked last month, ahead of the announcement.
Alongside Kitur, the new board members are Ruth Limo, Alice Kositany, David Maize, Paul Chemmuttut, and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) official Sammy Bor. Their names have been forwarded to Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii for formal swearing-in. The appointments followed a competitive recruitment process after the positions were advertised.
This development comes just weeks after the swearing-in of Eldoret City Manager, Elzeba Busienei, who became the first woman to hold the position. She succeeded Tito Koiyet, whose tenure ended three months ago. Governor Bii officiated her ceremony at the County Headquarters, where she pledged to deliver improved services and a cleaner, more organized city.
After taking her oath, Busienei received the official instruments of the city, symbolizing the transfer of executive urban authority. “I am greatly honoured to get the opportunity to serve residents of Eldoret and promise that I will work with everyone to transform the city,” she said.
Governor Bii praised her appointment as both a milestone for Eldoret and a breakthrough for women in leadership. “She brings discipline, good management, and a vision rooted in service. She will be instrumental in realising our goal of making Eldoret the cleanest, most organised, and livable city in Africa,” he said.
With the swearing-in of the new city board expected soon, Eldoret now looks set to begin a new phase of growth and transformation, driven by fresh leadership and renewed commitment to service delivery.
