Nissan has announced a recall of 173,301 vehicles in the United States following a potential fuel pump issue that could lead to engine stalling, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported Wednesday.
According to the NHTSA, the problem arises from the fuel tank temperature sensor harness, which may have been incorrectly routed during assembly. This misrouting can damage the wires, potentially causing a short circuit in the fuel pump fuse. The defect increases the risk of engine stalling while driving, raising safety concerns for vehicle owners.
The recall affects several models, including the 2013-2021 Nissan NV200 Van, the 2014-2017 and 2019 Nissan NV200 Taxi, and the 2015-2018 Chevrolet City Express, which Nissan produced for General Motors. Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to check their VIN numbers and contact their local Nissan dealership for inspection and free repairs.
Nissan has urged owners not to ignore the recall, as driving a vehicle with a compromised fuel pump fuse could result in unexpected engine shutdowns, creating a potential safety hazard on the road.
Dealers will inspect the fuel pump fuse and wiring harness, replacing or rerouting them as necessary to ensure proper function. Vehicle owners can find more information about the recall on the NHTSA website or by contacting Nissan customer service directly.
