The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is set to construct 162 modern housing units in Kisumu City. The project has been presented to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) for approval.
Details of the Project
According to a gazette notice dated September 12, NEMA’s Director General Mamo Mamo confirmed the development plan. The project will include:
- 108 two-bedroom apartments with DSQ
- 54 three-bedroom apartments with DSQ
The housing estate will also feature modern facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, pilates and yoga centre, jogging track, rooftop resting zone, clubhouse, and a children’s play area. Security and reliability will be enhanced with an electric fence and a backup generator.
Environmental Impact Assessment
NSSF has submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report. The report highlights possible effects such as:
- Air and noise pollution
- Solid and liquid waste
- Increased water demand
- Traffic congestion
- Worker safety and fire risks
The fund has proposed mitigation strategies to reduce these impacts.

NEMA has invited the public to submit comments within 30 days of the notice. Interested individuals can access the full report at:
