The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced two key vacancies the Registrar and Assistant Registrar of Political Parties following the resignation of Anne Nderitu. Nderitu stepped down from her role to take up a new position as a commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a public notice published in the latest edition of MyGov, PSC outlined the qualifications and responsibilities for the advertised roles. Candidates applying for either position must hold a degree from a recognised university in Kenya and possess expertise in fields such as Finance, Management, Political Science, Law, Governance, or Public Administration. Additionally, applicants must have at least 15 years of post-qualification experience, demonstrate high moral character and integrity, and satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
The Registrar of Political Parties will be responsible for a broad range of functions, including registering and regulating political parties, administering the Political Parties Fund, publishing audited accounts of political parties, and maintaining a register of party members and symbols. The Registrar will also certify the eligibility of independent candidates, ensure parties comply with the Political Parties Act, investigate complaints, and oversee party nominations.
The Assistant Registrar will support and deputize the Registrar in all duties and must meet the same stringent qualifications. However, PSC emphasized that candidates who have held political office or served on the governing body of a political party within the last five years are disqualified from applying.
Both appointments are for a non-renewable six-year term. The commission encourages applications from persons with disabilities, the marginalized, and minority communities.
Applicants are required to submit their applications—complete with CVs, ID or passport copies, academic and professional documents, and clearances from KRA, EACC, HELB, the police, and credit reference bureaus—by August 5, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Applications can be delivered by hand to the PSC offices on Harambee Avenue, by post, or via email in PDF format to registrarpp2025@publics.go.ke.
This recruitment drive marks a significant step in maintaining political party integrity and ensuring independent oversight in Kenya’s democratic processes.
