Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has criticised former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and ex-Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti. He accused them of misleading the Mbeere community into opposition politics.
Speaking on Friday, September 19, 2025, in Kavengero and Kìgwambiti, Mbeere North, Ruku questioned why leaders who once thrived in government are now pushing narratives that could isolate the community politically.
Former Leaders Questioned
“You worked with the government for years, JB Muturi, as a Magistrate, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly, and even Attorney General. Kivuti also served as Senator. Why now mislead the people of Mbeere into opposing the government that will transform their lives?” Ruku asked.
He urged Muturi and Kivuti to stop supporting aspirants with weak academic and leadership credentials. Instead, he called for educated, capable leaders who can secure parliamentary committee positions and lobby effectively for development.
Leadership Should Be Competence-Based
“If they truly care about Mbeere, let them support educated sons who can walk into Parliament, sit on key committees, and deliver results. Leadership is not just popularity; it is about competence,” Ruku emphasised.
Ruku also warned against settling political scores at the expense of community progress. He condemned the resurgence of clan-based politics, calling it divisive and outdated.
Unity and Development First
Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi echoed Ruku’s call for unity. He urged leaders to prioritise the welfare of the people over personal differences with the President.
Earlier, Ruku presided over the issuance of development funds to Kavengero and Kìgwambiti Secondary Schools. He highlighted government initiatives, including building over 23,000 classrooms, hiring 76,000 teachers, and plans to recruit 24,000 more to support the Competency-Based Curriculum.
Ruku urged residents to stay aligned with the government and reject leaders promoting divisive rhetoric.
“We are in government, and that’s where we must stay. Anyone telling you otherwise is playing politics with your future,” he said.
