Kenya Kwanza leaders on Saturday, November 8, 2025, made a strong political statement in Mbeere North when they collectively spent Ksh6 million at a goat auction in Ishiara Market. The high-profile event, which drew thousands of residents and traders, quickly transformed into a campaign rally for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Muthende.
Although President William Ruto did not attend the auction in person, he sent Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah as his representative. Ichung’wah purchased goats worth Ksh3.5 million on behalf of the President, underscoring Ruto’s continued influence in the region.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also contributed Ksh1.5 million, while Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Ichung’wah each spent Ksh500,000. The lavish spending was framed as both an economic boost for local traders and a show of political might ahead of the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election.
Governor Mbarire, who led the event, rallied residents to support Muthende, describing him as a visionary leader capable of driving development in the constituency. “Muthende is the only candidate you can trust. With him, our children will have better schools, farmers better markets, and youth more opportunities,” she said.
Ichung’wah echoed her sentiments, emphasizing that aligning with the ruling UDA government was key to unlocking development. “The people of Mbeere North know their progress lies in working with the government. This is just the beginning,” he stated.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku dismissed opposition candidate Newton Karish, saying the momentum was firmly with UDA.
With more than ten Principal Secretaries and parastatal heads in attendance, the auction doubled as one of the year’s most significant political gatherings in Embu County. As campaigns intensify, the Mbeere North by-election is shaping up to be a crucial test of Kenya Kwanza’s grassroots influence.
