President William Ruto is set to hold talks with leading U.S. entertainment industry players in a move aimed at strengthening Kenya’s creative economy.
The Head of State, who is currently in the United States for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, will attend a high-level roundtable on September 25. The meeting, hosted by the U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Africa Business Center and AmCham Kenya, will bring together filmmakers, television producers, studio executives, streaming platforms, music industry leaders, and sports representatives.
The discussions are designed to create a production pipeline between Kenya and Hollywood, opening opportunities for collaboration, investment, and talent exchange. Kenya hopes the talks will spur job creation, boost small businesses, and expand the tourism sector through creative storytelling and film production.
A key highlight of the event will be the presentation of The Mara by filmmaker Evette Vargas of Indigo Reign Films. The project will serve as a case study showcasing global cooperation in film and entertainment, while positioning Kenya as an emerging hub for creative talent and cultural exports.
In addition to the creative economy agenda, President Ruto is expected to push for broader reforms on the global stage. He will advocate for changes to the international financial system to ensure fair access to development finance for developing countries. Ruto will also push for United Nations reforms to make the body more inclusive and effective in tackling global challenges.
According to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the President will emphasize peace and security efforts in conflict-affected regions including Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Haiti.
Ruto’s U.S. visit is seen as both a diplomatic and economic mission, with the creative industry talks signaling Kenya’s intent to position itself as a key player in the global entertainment and cultural economy.
