President William Ruto on Wednesday officially opened the new Homa Bay County Government Headquarters in a ceremony attended by top national and county leaders. The state-of-the-art facility is set to enhance service delivery and provide a modern workspace for county officials.
The event took place just a day before the official launch of the ninth Devolution Conference, which is being hosted in Homa Bay County. The conference, a key platform for evaluating the progress and challenges of Kenya’s devolved governance system, has drawn leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the country.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who hosted the event, welcomed the President and praised the project as a milestone in the county’s growth. “This is not just a building; it is a symbol of our commitment to effective governance and better service delivery to our people,” she said.
Also present were Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, Woman Representative Joyce Bensuda, and other elected leaders from the region. The ceremony underscored unity between the national and county governments in fostering development.
President Ruto commended the county for its achievements and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting counties in strengthening devolved functions. “A functional county government is the backbone of devolution. These offices will be a center of excellence in serving the people of Homa Bay,” he said.
The new headquarters is expected to improve coordination across county departments, making Homa Bay a model for other counties in infrastructure development and governance efficiency.
