President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that no region will be left out of the government’s development agenda. Speaking at the Eastern Kenya Integrated College in Mitaboni, Machakos County, on Saturday, he unveiled projects worth Ksh56 billion for Ukambani.
Development for All
The President said political choices made during elections would not deny any community access to development. “It is not right or fair for any part to remain behind. We are one nation, one people with a common destiny,” he told the gathering.
Key Investments
Out of the Ksh56 billion, Ksh45 billion will fund affordable housing, fresh produce markets, and student hostels. Roads in the region will receive Ksh5.5 billion, while another Ksh5.5 billion is set aside for electricity connections.
Agriculture and Irrigation
Ruto identified irrigation as the “next frontier” in transforming agriculture. He said Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties would benefit from large-scale irrigation, supported by the near-complete Thwake Dam. “This dam will be a game changer in food production,” he said.
Education at the Center
On education, the President noted that his government has invested heavily in Competency-Based Education and Training, technical institutes, and universities. He stressed that education is the country’s greatest equalizer and promised adequate funding. Eastern Kenya Integrated College is also seeking authority to offer degree courses.
Other Projects
The President highlighted ongoing works at the Ksh800 million Kitui Stadium, set to host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations. Roads in Kitui town and surrounding areas are also under construction.
Call for Unity
Leaders present included Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, MPs from Machakos and Kitui, and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama. Mutua urged the region to support the government, saying Ruto was making tough decisions that were stabilizing the economy.
