President William Ruto has laid the foundation for a series of transformative development projects in Busia County aimed at improving living standards, boosting local economies, and creating employment opportunities.
Speaking on Friday, October 31, 2025, during the groundbreaking ceremony at Bumbe Technical Training Institute, President Ruto announced that the government will construct 10,000 affordable housing units, 6,000 student bed spaces, and 14 modern markets across the county.
The projects, spearheaded by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, are part of the government’s broader Affordable Housing Program, which seeks to provide decent and affordable living spaces for Kenyans while creating jobs for the youth, women, and players in the manufacturing sector.
At Bumbe Technical Training Institute, the President laid the foundation stone for a 340-bed capacity hostel that will accommodate part of the institution’s 3,500 students. The facility will include study areas, food stalls, shops, a minimart, laundromat, guard house, and an underground water tank — all designed to provide students with a safe and convenient learning environment.
President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing all the projects within the set timelines, emphasizing that every major town in Kenya is now a beneficiary of the Affordable Housing initiative.
During an inspection tour of the Boma Yangu Funyula Housing Project, which will deliver 955 units in 10 blocks of social, affordable, and market-rate housing, Ruto urged Kenyans to ignore “selfish politicians” who criticize the housing program, saying it is a long-term investment that will benefit future generations.
“These developments will not only provide homes but also transform our towns, stimulate economic growth, and create sustainable livelihoods,” the President said.
