Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi has confirmed President William Ruto’s pivotal role in securing the release of Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who had been detained in Uganda. The announcement was made during a joint media address on November 20, 2025, in Kakamega County.
Mudavadi explained that President Ruto personally engaged in talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, which ultimately led to the release of the two activists. The PCS added that he had formally written to the Ugandan government requesting their release after the duo had been held for 38 days.
Addressing claims regarding the involvement of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mudavadi stated that while other leaders may have contributed, the Kenyan government coordinated the repatriation process. The High Commission of Kenya in Uganda facilitated the safe return of Njagi and Oyoo to the country.
In addition, Mudavadi provided updates on Kenyans detained in Tanzania following protests during the November 29, 2025, general election. He revealed that the Kenya High Commission in Tanzania is actively repatriating all Kenyans who were arrested, ensuring their safe return.
The PCS urged Kenyans traveling abroad to respect local laws and regulations, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy in resolving cross-border issues. He highlighted that his ministry is continuously engaged in diplomatic discussions with other nations to safeguard the welfare of Kenyans living in the diaspora.
Mudavadi concluded by stressing the need for diplomatic channels in addressing issues affecting Kenyans abroad, as well as broader regional matters, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the safety and protection of its citizens beyond national borders.
