President William Ruto has urged Kenyan youth to use the NYOTA Fund responsibly, warning against spending the money on unproductive activities such as romance and alcohol. The Head of State made the remarks on Friday, November 7, 2025, during the official launch of the Nyota Fund initiative at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County.
The president emphasized that the fund, supported by the World Bank Group, was established to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-employment among young people. He reminded beneficiaries that the money is part of a government loan and must therefore be used wisely.
“I should not get a report that someone who got the NYOTA money used it to fund romance or to buy alcohol. The Government of Kenya will repay the loan to the World Bank, so you must use that money wisely,” Ruto said.
Ruto reiterated that the initiative aims to empower youth to develop business ideas, create jobs, and contribute to the country’s economic growth rather than promote idleness or reckless spending.
The president also underscored the importance of technology in promoting fairness, transparency, and accountability in governance. He noted that leveraging technology will help eliminate corruption and reduce the influence of brokers in government programs.
“Technology democratizes opportunity and enhances transparency. We do not want a Kenya where you must know someone to get something,” he added.
To expand digital access, Ruto revealed that he has directed all Members of Parliament to establish at least one ICT hub in every ward. The hubs will enable young people to access online jobs, engage in e-commerce, and participate in the growing digital economy.
Ruto concluded by urging the youth to take full advantage of the NYOTA Fund, saying that Kenya’s future depends on responsible and visionary young people who can turn opportunities into sustainable ventures.
