Security has been heightened across the Nyanza region ahead of the 9th Devolution Conference, which kicks off today in Homa Bay town. Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has assured delegates and visitors of robust security measures, noting that all security units are on high alert.
Dr. Omollo said security mapping has been completed at both county and regional levels, covering not only Homa Bay town but also neighboring counties that share borders with Homa Bay. This approach, he explained, will ensure seamless coordination throughout the high-profile event.
“The security plan extends beyond Homa Bay to other towns in the region, including Kisumu, Kisii, and Migori, where many delegates are expected to lodge,” said Omollo during an inspection of the conference venue. He added that all satellite towns within Homa Bay County have been secured to accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors.
The PS emphasized the importance of the conference in strengthening Kenya’s devolved system of governance, highlighting its role as a platform for policy dialogue and a driver of local economic growth. “This event is not only a platform for policy dialogue but also a significant economic boost for Homa Bay, as it brings together leaders, investors, and visitors from across the country,” he noted.
Coming just two months after Homa Bay successfully hosted the national Madaraka Day celebrations, Omollo encouraged local entrepreneurs to seize opportunities presented by the conference to showcase their goods and services.
President William Ruto, who arrived in Homa Bay on Tuesday evening, is expected to officially open the three-day event at Homa Bay School. Ahead of the opening, he met grassroots women leaders from Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, and Kisumu counties at the State Lodge in Homa Bay.
During the meeting, President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s commitment to empowering women economically, stating that their full participation is essential to achieving sustainable development.
The Devolution Conference is expected to draw hundreds of leaders, policymakers, and investors, further positioning Homa Bay as a key hub for national events and economic opportunities.
