Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, were warmly received with song and dance as they arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, on Thursday, marking the beginning of their “Engage the Diaspora” tour across the United States. The visit is part of a broader initiative by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader to connect with the Kenyan diaspora and promote his newly formed political outfit.
Gachagua, who was ousted from office in October 2024, is on his first foreign trip since then. He described the tour as an opportunity to witness the “indefatigable spirit” of Kenyans abroad, praising their resilience, warmth, and vibrant culture.
“It is truly fulfilling to witness the indefatigable spirit of Kenyans across the world. Our resilience, warmth, and vibrant culture continue to inspire,” Gachagua said during a meet-and-greet session in Baltimore.
The DCP leader is scheduled to visit several cities between July and August, holding town hall meetings and attending social gatherings. His aim is to engage with Kenyans living in the US and gain insights into the challenges they face, while rallying support ahead of the 2027 general election.
On Sunday, Gachagua opened a second satellite office for the DCP in Boston, a move seen as a step toward strengthening the party’s presence among Kenyans abroad. He reiterated that the DCP was founded on the principle of listening to the people, promising to be a leader who responds to the concerns of citizens, both at home and in the diaspora.
“For many years, the pleas of Kenyans have gone unheard. I am committed to going over and above to listen to the people,” he affirmed.
A source close to the trip revealed that Gachagua’s itinerary includes concerts featuring Kenyan artists based in the US, aimed at bringing the community together. The tour has sparked growing interest among Kenyans in the diaspora, many of whom are keen to hear his vision and the future of the DCP.
With a packed calendar of engagements, Gachagua’s US tour signals a strategic outreach to a key constituency ahead of his political comeback bid.
