Kenyan-based influencer marketing and social commerce platform Twiva has received a strategic investment from the Sony Innovation Fund, the corporate venture capital arm of Sony Group Corporation. The funding marks a major milestone in Twiva’s mission to build a thriving digital ecosystem that empowers creators to monetize their influence while enabling brands to foster authentic engagement across Africa.
“With Sony’s expertise in entertainment and technology, we will scale our impact, expand into new markets, and unlock new income-generating opportunities for Africa’s youth,” said Peter Kironji, CEO of Twiva.
The investment is part of Sony Innovation Fund’s growing commitment to Africa, with a focus on unlocking the potential of emerging digital ecosystems—particularly within the entertainment sector. Antonio Avitabile, Managing Director – EMEA at Sony Ventures Corporation, noted that Africa’s digital creative industries hold significant untapped potential. “Twiva’s dynamic platform provides the ideal foundation for sustainable growth. We look forward to supporting Twiva’s team as they drive inclusive digital transformation across Africa,” he said.
Africa is home to over 250 million youth active on digital platforms, making the creator economy one of the fastest-growing job creation engines on the continent. Twiva operates at the intersection of technology, creativity, and commerce through its branded house model, offering value across five high-growth verticals: influencer marketing, social commerce, skills development (via Twiva Academy), embedded finance (Twiva Pay), and livestreaming.
The fresh funding will help Twiva expand into key African markets, enhance its technology infrastructure—including AI-powered creator tools—and accelerate innovations such as Twiva Pay, which streamlines payments to creators and introduces LPO financing for influencer marketing campaigns.
According to Kironji, the goal is to create Africa’s most impactful creator-powered ecosystem—transforming influencers into entrepreneurs and job creators who contribute to inclusive economic growth.
By combining Sony’s global entertainment and tech expertise with Twiva’s deep understanding of African markets, the partnership aims to unlock new opportunities for creators and brands, positioning the continent’s creative economy as a force for sustainable development.
