The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has issued a consumer warning after a packaging error resulted in some cans of Celsius energy drinks being inadvertently filled with vodka. The mishap involved the Astro Vibe Sparkling Blue Razz edition and stemmed from a supplier mistake in which empty Celsius-branded cans were mistakenly shipped to High Noon, a popular vodka seltzer company.
According to the USFDA, High Noon unknowingly used the mislabeled Celsius cans to package their alcoholic beverage, prompting an urgent recall to prevent potential consumer confusion or harm. While no illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported so far, the agency stressed the seriousness of the issue due to the unintentional consumption risk, especially for minors or individuals avoiding alcohol.
The affected Celsius cans are marked with UPC 8 89392 00134 1 and have lot codes ranging from L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11, located on the bottom of the cans. These products were distributed between July 21 and July 23 across several states including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
In addition to the Celsius recall, High Noon is also recalling some of its Beach Variety Pack products that were produced on the same line. These affected packs carry the UPC 085000040065 and the following lot codes:
- L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59
- L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00
The USFDA advises consumers to dispose of any affected Celsius cans and avoid consuming the contents. Similarly, only the specific High Noon Beach Variety packs with the above lot codes are impacted, and other products from the brand remain safe to consume.
This unusual incident underscores the importance of strict quality control in the beverage industry, particularly in shared packaging facilities. Both Celsius and High Noon are cooperating with the authorities and taking steps to ensure such errors do not happen again. Consumers can contact the respective companies or check the USFDA website for more details and updates.
