The Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) has announced a compliance crackdown in seven counties. The exercise will take place in September 2025.
Two Teams for the Exercise
The Board said two inspection teams will be dispatched.
- The first team will cover Turkana, West Pokot, and Trans Nzoia.
- The second team will inspect Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo.
The Board has not given exact start or end dates for the exercise.
What Practitioners Must Show
Veterinary practitioners must be ready to display:
- A valid 2025 practice licence
- A retention card
- A Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) licence
- A lockable cabinet for prescription-only medicines
- A prescription file
“All practitioners are requested to comply in time to avoid inconvenience. All payments are made through eCitizen,” KVB stated.
Warning on Unlicensed Doctors
This inspection follows a warning issued by the Board in April 2025. At the time, KVB cautioned Kenyans against hiring unlicensed veterinary doctors.
Anyone employing unregistered practitioners risks:
- A fine of up to Ksh100,000
- Imprisonment for at least one year
- Or both penalties
The Board also noted that any person not appearing in the official register after March 31 each year will be considered unregistered.
Protecting Public Health
KVB emphasized that only licensed and registered practitioners are allowed to operate. The crackdown aims to:
- Protect public health
- Ensure quality veterinary services
- Uphold professional standards
By stepping up compliance checks, the Board seeks to restore order and strengthen trust in veterinary practice across the country.
