In a move aimed at strengthening the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, the Cabinet Secretary for Health conducted an official tour of the National Supply Chain Centre located in Embakasi, Nairobi. The visit marked a critical step toward enhancing the efficiency and resilience of Kenya’s healthcare supply systems.
During the tour, the CS received a comprehensive briefing on the Integrated Logistics Management Information System (i-LMIS). The advanced system leverages artificial intelligence, real-time tracking, and early warning alerts to monitor the movement and availability of essential medical commodities. This technology-driven approach is designed to reduce stockouts, improve inventory accuracy, and ensure timely delivery of life-saving health products to facilities across the country.
The CS underscored the importance of a robust supply chain in achieving the goals of UHC, noting that efficient logistics are central to guaranteeing continuous access to medicines and medical equipment for all Kenyans. He emphasized that integrating technology into logistics operations is not only about enhancing efficiency but also about promoting accountability and transparency in the health sector.
The National Supply Chain Centre serves as the central hub for coordinating medical supplies from procurement to last-mile delivery. Through its streamlined operations and adoption of digital tools like i-LMIS, the centre plays a pivotal role in supporting equitable healthcare service delivery.
Officials at the facility also showcased how the system generates actionable data to support decision-making at both county and national levels. With predictive analytics and demand forecasting, the Ministry of Health is better positioned to anticipate needs and respond proactively to emerging health challenges.
The tour is part of ongoing government efforts to reinforce health systems in line with Kenya’s commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare services. Strengthening the medical supply chain infrastructure is seen as a cornerstone of ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in the journey toward achieving UHC.
