Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale recently visited the TaifaCare Support Centre in Nairobi, the hub that operates the toll-free 147 hotline. The visit highlighted Kenya’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program.
The TaifaCare Support Centre, powered by the Digital Health Agency (DHA), serves as a vital link between citizens, healthcare providers, and government institutions. Since its launch in October 2024, the centre has handled over one million calls, offering solutions to healthcare challenges in real time. This has made it easier for citizens to access timely support while providing authorities with valuable feedback to improve services across the health sector.
The 147 hotline is designed to address a wide range of healthcare concerns, from reporting service delays to seeking guidance on accessing care. By centralizing communication, the government has ensured that citizens have a direct and reliable channel to voice their concerns and receive quick responses.
Looking ahead, the TaifaCare Support Centre is preparing to integrate advanced technologies such as AI-powered chatbots. These tools will enhance efficiency by automating responses to frequently asked questions and ensuring 24/7 availability of healthcare support. This innovation is expected to reduce waiting times and free up human agents to focus on more complex cases.
The initiative reflects a broader government commitment to creating a responsive, transparent, and citizen-focused healthcare system. By leveraging digital tools, Kenya is positioning itself as a leader in healthcare innovation across Africa.
Citizens are encouraged to register for TaifaCare services by dialing *147# or through the AfyaYangu Platform. Registration allows users to access UHC benefits and ensures that their healthcare needs are recorded and addressed within the national system. In addition, the toll-free hotline empowers communities by giving them a voice in shaping the quality of healthcare delivery.
With the TaifaCare Support Centre at the heart of citizen engagement, Kenya is steadily moving closer to achieving its goal of Universal Health Coverage. The Centre stands as a symbol of progress, showing how technology and government commitment can combine to transform healthcare into a more accessible, efficient, and inclusive service for all Kenyans.
