Health Cabinet Secretary has issued a stern warning to the Mediheal Group of Hospitals CEO over alleged malpractice in the health sector. The CEO faces potential prosecution, deportation, and revocation of citizenship under the Kenyan Citizenship and Immigration Act, pending the findings of an ongoing independent investigation.
This announcement came during the grand finale of the 15th Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) National Sports Competition held at Chebisaas Boys High School in Uasin Gishu County. The event, themed “Sports for Health and Cohesion – #StrongerTogether,” brought together more than 2,250 KMTC students from across Kenya. It emphasized the government’s commitment to tackling non-communicable diseases, expanding mental health services, and promoting unity through youth engagement in sports.
In his remarks, the CS reiterated the Ministry of Health’s focus on strengthening the health workforce. A partnership with the National Treasury is underway to prioritize sustainable financing for KMTC students in the national budget cycle. This initiative seeks to promote equitable access to medical education and eliminate financial exclusion that has hindered many aspiring healthcare professionals.

Efforts are also ongoing to address staffing challenges in medical training institutions. The Ministry is working closely with KMTC to recruit more tutors and lecturers to support increasing student enrollment while maintaining high standards in education and clinical supervision.
Another critical area of progress is the elimination of clinical attachment fees, which have been a burden to many students. The CS acknowledged the leadership of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for setting an example and encouraged other public hospitals to do the same.
The CS further urged KMTC to continue investing in sports infrastructure and to build strategic partnerships that support the physical, mental, and social well-being of future health professionals. He emphasized that sports can be a unifying factor and a powerful tool in promoting health and national cohesion.
The Ministry remains dedicated to reforms that not only strengthen the health workforce but also create a conducive environment for learning, mentorship, and innovation in healthcare delivery.
